Studies concerning driver inattention and behaviour modification using driver assistance systems

tiggesfahrsimulator_ftm_tumProblem

Nowadays, the inattention of car- and especially truck-drivers plays a major role in a multitude of traffic accidents. Reasons might be e.g. the increasing demand placed on the driver as result of a high volume of traffic as well as monotone and few dynamic driving situations on never-ending and straight running highways.

Goal

Driver assistance systems shall support the driver in vehicle guidance and exculpate him. In consequence of the assistance, this must not lead to inattention of the driver nor to a faster tiredness.

Approach

  • Investigation of the influences of driver assistance systems on the driver’s attention and the behaviour using driving simulator experiments.
  • Variation of the system behaviour of the assistance system through different experimental series to identify design specific factors of influence.
